1. The urban legend, " call inside your home", is about a girl that is babysitting 2 children. She then receives threatening calls on her phone from an anonymous number. She doesn't know who the caller is. The caller then explains details about the house and where the children are in that moment. The babysitter realizes that the calls are coming from inside her house. She ran all through the house trying to find out who was in there. But, she couldn't find him. When she goes to check up on the children, she finds them slaughtered in the bed.
2. It is relevant today because this could happen to anybody. Babysitting is a common job for teens to have nowadays. The urban legend is trying to tell us that that we need to protect our children. That is the moral of the story. Protect whoever you are watching at all times. Unfortunately, in this urban legend, the girl could not protect the children she was watching. Readers are interested in this story because it is one of the more modern urban legends. Break-ins happen on a day to day basis to anyone. It is not necessarily random, but the situation can happen. This urban legend really hits home for me because I babysit kids. As a babysitter, the children come first. The fact that this woman could not protect the children is heartbreaking. It teaches readers to lock the doors, take safety precautions for everyone in the house.

The Namesake Character names
Ashoke- Asoke means without sorrow. The name was borne by Ashoka the Great. Gogol´s dad exemplifies the meaning of without sorrow because he does not feel bad about any of his past experiences. Throughout the novel, he continues to push through all the challenges him and his family go through in order to have a better life for themselves. In chapter 5, Gogol learns that his name goes along with the near life death experience that Ashoke had. Instead of lingering in the past and having the accident follow him through his life, Ashoke tells Gogol that, " You remind me of everything that followed¨ ( 124). Gogol´s name reminds Ashoke of all the happy experiences he has had since then.
Ashima- For Ashima, the name means boundless or limitless. I think that the meaning of Ashima does not go along with her personality. The name personally gives off the feeling that she has no boundaries in her life and anything is possible. For Ashima in the novel, that is simply not her. She is stuck to the tradition and reliant on other people. The author, Lahiri, explains that Ashima is despondent, unaccustomed, all over again, to being on her own ( 50).
Nikhil- Nikhil means whole and entire. This word often reminds readers of someone that is wholesome and strong. That is exactly how Gogol is. During the novel, Gogol transforms into a boy that has overcame his fears. He accepts and cherishes the American tradition he is now being brought into. He finds himself loving the tradition and choosing it over the Bengali culture. He begins to embrace his the name Nikhil. Gogol goes to a party and embraces the Nikhil in him. Gogol explains after kissing a girl at the party that, "the Gogol in him had nothing to do with it¨ ( 96).
Sonali- Sonali means gold. Sonali is seen to be a kid that is golden. Sonali and Gogol are are very different children that express themselves differently. Sonali is seen to be a ¨ true american¨ ( 63). Sonali tries to put a dollar bill in her mouth.
Olivia- The name Olivia directly comes from the latin word Oliva. This name means ¨ olive¨. Olives are calm and serene fruit. I am not like that at all. I have no correlation to the name Olivia. I have a olive green undertone to my skin. That is about it.
Jameson- My brother´s name, Jameson, means ¨ the son of james¨. The name is biblical to an extent from the new testimate. Since my brother and I are not fully related ( we are only half siblings), his dad´s name is James.
Michael- Michael means " who is like God?". My dad truly believes that no human being on this planet is like God. The name describes him perfectly.
Melodie- The name Melodie means "song¨. My mom has been an amazing singer all her life. She is truly a songbird in my eyes.

Metaphor
Love is like a fire. It is hard to control and burns everything in its sight.
When I think of love, I think about the uncontrollable desire to be with someone. But, that desire can separate you from every thing else going on in your life. You burn bridges with friends and family. You burn everything in your sight just for that one flame. In life, most people go through different types of love. People go through different stages. In the end, the flame will not go out. In my life, I have dealt with this flame of fire. I have went through the stages of love. You might be thinking, " What would an 18 year old know about love?" In all honesty, I know very little but, I am learning every day about this fire. I am done trying to control the flame. It is now time to let the fire burn and let it burn forever.

Sleeping beauty
The story of sleeping beauty defines women as weak. The different versions of the story “Sleeping Beauty”, consist of the idea that women need men in order to survive. In the original story, sleeping beauty can not wake up unless she is kissed my the prince. This describes that women are nothing without men. This simply is not true. The first original story of sleeping beauty was created between 1330 and 1344. During this time period, women were seen as objects and not human beings. Men depended on the “ hopelessness” of a women to boost their egotistical manners. In the first revision of the original story, sleeping beauty had woken up to 2 babies. Her prince or her “ first love” had raped her. The author of the story depicted sleeping beauty as a weak women who needed a man in her life to give her happiness. This phenomenon of the fairytale depicts sleeping beauty as a stupid human being that only cares about a man. Without a man, she is nothing.
As a feminist, the plot of this story tells the readers how men are and how they treated them. They were not treated equal. Many people can make a case against this opinion and say that women are the reason for men’s happiness. If it were not for women, men would not be the way that they are today. If it were not for women, a lot of us wouldn’t be here today. This world evolves around women.

Fairytales
A fairytale is a folklore or short story about magical beings and humans. Fairytales usually have the moral of an happy ending. The endings are never sad. The leading company Disney, always has happy endings to attract the younger population. But, the real stories that were produced were not created that way. The real stories show the horror of a situation and show the bad endings of the story. Personally I love the fairytale called Cinderella. In Cinderella, the story starts off as with a girl, three stepsisters, and her stepmother. The stepmom and stepsisters are mean to Cinderella. The stepsisters go to ball so one of them can have the prince fall in love with them. Cinderella wanted to go to the ball. A magical fairy godmother appeared to turn her rags into a ball gown and a pumpkin into a carriage. Once Cinderella gets to the ball, she dances with the prince. She already knows that when the clock strikes twelve; she has to leave the ball to go home. When the clock strikes twelve, she leaves but, her shoe falls off. The next day, the prince goes around town to find the girl with foot that fits the shoe he found. None of the stepsisters’ feet fit into the shoe. Cinderella’s foot fits into the shoe . The prince and Cinderella live happily ever after.
If I was in the fairytale, I would want to be the fairy godmother. The fairy godmother can turn anything ugly into something beautiful. She was the cause of how Cinderella found happiness. She was not happy in the house that she was put in. This fairytale was portrayed as a happy story.

The origin of ants journal
What is your interpretation of the Chinese folktale, "The Origin of Ants?" What do you think the moral of this story is? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I believe the Chinese folktale is about being distracted by the whole main idea. In the folktale, instead of getting money and riches for his wife, he got toffee instead. The moral of the story is do not lie to get the riches that you want. If he would have stayed abroad and had found employment, maybe his life would have been easier. He would not have had a run-in with the emperor.
The moral is just because you get lucky once, it may not be able to happen again. I really enjoyed the story because it describes the consequences of lying. In the end, the man turned into ants. The ants symbolize the little creatures or the common laborers in the world.

Paradise by John Prime
Paragraph 1:
Paradise by John Prime was released in 1971. This song is described as a folklore because it tells a story. The song talks about a little boy and his family traveling to Western Kentucky. The little boy ( which we can assume is John prime), clarifies that he does not want to go to this town. He would rather be in his town that he calls paradise. The only reason he does not like this town is because of the coal mining that goes on. Paradise is described as a wonderful town down by the Green River. This Folklore is a narrative described in a song. The song includes: characters and a plot. The characters are the little boy and his family. The plot is the story of his family traveling to Western Kentucky and what he sees. The narrator of the song would rather be in his Paradise town rather than in a town dealing with coal mining.
Paragraph 2:
This song really talks about the effects of coal mining and how it effects the earth in general. Even though the song is older and not my style of music that I listen to, it is rather pleasant to listen to. The song reminds me of the old country days. I could almost picture myself sitting on the porch, drinking sweet tea while listening to this song in the 70's. It gives the listener a perspective on how bad the coal mines were to the environment. It also makes you think that adults were not the only ones to not like coal mining. Children could have the same opinion as well. Personally, if I was to rewrite this song, I would make the song a lot slower to have a gloomy effect. The song would give off the impression that this is something the world needs to change and it did change. But, back in the day, everything was different.
